Here's a brief list of acronyms and the like you may come across with
their meanings; it should help with my explanation of the WWW as well. 

OTOH: On The Other Hand 	ROFL:  Rolls On Floor Laughing 

IMHO: In My Humble Opinion	AFAIK: As Far As I Know

TTFN: Ta Ta For Now ('Bye!)	FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions

FTP: File Transfer Protocol	WWW: World Wide Web

LAN: Local Area Network		HTML: WWW writing language

URL: Shorthand for a WWW address

WYSIWYG:    What You See Is What You Get

Homepage:  The starting point of a group of WWW pages. 

Snail Mail:  The normal postal service, as opposed to E-Mail. 

Lurker:  Someone who reads a newsgroup but doesn't contribute. 

There are many others, of course, but the above should give you some idea
of what's going on!
